The gap between "I want to do this" and actually doing it is where most people get stuck.
1:1 mentorship for creatives and entrepreneurs in their first few years — whether you haven't launched yet or you're in it and need someone to think with.
Mentorship is like
dating or therapy
you won’t click with everyone.
Let’s see if we’re a match!
On my birthday in my second year of business, I was getting ready for dinner when I happened to check my email.
What I found was not pleasant - it was a client breakup in my inbox. I didn't say anything to my boyfriend. I went to dinner, smiled through it, ordered something nice, and spent the whole night doing math in my head about what I'd just lost. The next morning I messaged my coach in tears, and she talked me off the ledge by helping me see past the panic.
Five years later, losing a client is still not a walk in the park, but it's not the end of the world anymore either.
That's the shift I try to help people make. When we work together, I want to understand what you're actually dealing with — your roadblocks, your blind spots, what's exciting you and what's terrifying you.
Your business and your life aren't separate things, and I don't treat them like they are. From there, we build something tailored to you.
Let me tell you a story.
Purpose-driven and a little allergic to corporate speak
Open to talking about the messy stuff, not just the strategy
Building something that reflects their values, not just their resume
Ready to take action, even when it's uncomfortable
Let’s find out if we click.
My people tend to be:
Hey! I’m Nina.
I grew up in Toronto asking "why?" about everything — apparently that hasn't changed — which is probably why I ended up studying Philosophy and Psychology, then somehow fell into digital marketing.
Since then I've taught English in South Korea, worked in comms and fundraising for a women's equality nonprofit in Guatemala, and eventually started Sunflower Communications, which I've been building for the past six years. I now live in Mexico City, lead a team of six across four countries, and work with impact-driven organizations internationally on communications strategy.
I'm also the 2023 recipient of the BMO x Humber Women's Entrepreneurship Award, and I mentor creatives and early-stage entrepreneurs through Sunflower and as an Expert in Residence with Humber College.
The through-line in all of it — the teaching, the nonprofit work, the agency, the mentorship — has been people and how they communicate. I care deeply about purpose, about doing work that actually means something, and about helping people build something that's genuinely theirs.
Everything is kind of made up anyway, so why not make up a life and a business that actually reflects who you are?
Want to hear more from me? I write The Meristem Letters - a community newsletter for the lifelong learner who understands that the personal and professional are not separate. Entrepreneurship, social impact, art, philosophy — and the conversations that happen when you stop performing.
So, how does it work?
